Brent N. started learning to play the acoustic guitar at the age of 12 at a local music shop in Heist-op-den-Berg, together with his dad.
A blues fanatic, ‘Witte Walter’, taught Brent his first song: Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple.
One year later, he switched to electric guitar, so he could jam with his friend ‘Bowzow’, with whom he played in a pop band. Later on, when Brent N. wanted to start a band with some of his high school friends, he decided to switch to bass.
His father bought him his first bass, an OLP Musicman, at the local dealer in Itegem.
Since then, Brent N. was sold to the four-string beauty.
Brent N.’s biggest bass heroes aren’t all technical wonder boys like Victor Wooten, Les Claypool or Flea, but are bass players from bands he likes, bass players that know the art of taking a crowd with them during a show. Mark Hoppus from Blink 182 and Chris Batten from Enter Shikari are some of them, but also musicians who play other instruments like Adam Dutkiewicz from Killswitch Engage master this skill and have Brent N.’s admiration.
